Welcome to Rhythm Syndicate, a community Canberra choir comprised of men and women of all ages who love performing a variety of songs in four-part harmony.
History Rhythm Syndicate held its first rehearsal in early 1990 with a few former Woden Valley Youth Choir members who decided to reconnect and start singing again. We will celebrate our 30th anniversary in early 2020. Performances We love to perform and welcome opportunities to do so. For the first half of the year our main focus is the Merimbula Jazz Festival which is held over the long weekend in June. Over that weekend, the group performs two jazz brackets as well as featuring at the Jazz Festival's Ecumenical Church Service. We also perform at a number of other venues including community events, wedding ceremonies, corporate and charity events, nursing homes, retirement villages, and various festivals in Canberra and the surrounding region. Repertoire Our repertoire comprises an eclectic mix of styles from mainstream jazz, gospel, Christmas songs and carols, to classical and popular, both accompanied and a cappella. We pride ourselves on being the best we can be, and love to explore different styles of music. Choir Composition We have five sections in the choir: first and second sopranos, altos, tenors and basses. Although none of us are professional singers we have all had previous singing experience, and being able to read music is a big advantage for a member. We like to listen to potential new members in a private and simple audition, to make sure that we have a balance of voices and do not overload individual parts.
